On Tuesday, Aug. 3, 200 Macy’s locations nationwide will unveil the new clothing line for junior girls, Material Girl.
Material Girl was created by Madonna, along with her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes (aka Lola). Madonna, who is quick to say Lola is “much more fashion forward and savvy than I am at this point,” also notes that the two have very similar tastes in clothing, which makes it easy for them to collaborate with one another on the line.
The Material Girl collection was mostly inspired by Lola’s bold and creative sense of style and is said to be “all about self-expression and playing with layering.” Explains Madonna, “A Material Girl is a girl that is interested in fashion, and in music, and in fun, and has a sense of humor, and is an adventurous human being.” This sense of adventure and fun is certainly reflected in the collection, which mixes various textures, fabrics, and silhouettes. Pieces from the collection include a tutu dress, a flannel button down, a mini jean skirt, and lots of prints, florals, and embellishments. The collection, which will be available exclusively at Macy’s, will also include shoes, jewelry, and handbags.
To celebrate the debut of Material Girl, select Macy’s stores will host their own Madonna-inspired events throughout the day featuring Madonna songs, giveaways, and refreshments. These stores include Macy’s at the Dadeland Mall in Miami, the Glendale Galleria in L.A., Chicago’s State Street, San Francisco’s Union Square, and Macy’s at South Coast Plaza in Orange County, Calif. Starting at 10 a.m., select stores will also offer the chance to win autographed Madonna T-shirts. And finally, the line’s spokesmodel, Gossip Girl star and singer/songwriter, Taylor Momson, will appear and perform at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City from 5 to 7 p.m.
