Haute Parties With Boston’s Best Red Sox Players

It has been a nonstop celebration here in Red Sox Nation with many haute parties this weekend continuing this week with Boston’s best former Red Sox players.

The soirees got underway Friday night, when we told you about Pedro Martinez’ second annual charity gala at The Colonnade Hotel. Pedro and his wife, Carolina, were in town to raise money for the Pedro Martinez Charity to provide assistance to those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria as well as children in the United States and the Dominican Republic. The three-course dinner celebrated the decade of work by the charity, which provides assistance through holistic education, social services, and mentorship.

On Saturday night, more than 500 supporters turned out to the Westin Copley Hotel for Joslin Diabetes Center’s 18th annual black-tie High Hopes Gala, including Red Sox legend Jason Varitek and NBC Boston’s J.C. Monahan, both of whom have a family connection to diabetes. Varitek showed off his World Series ring and gave a signed baseball to honoree Will Matthews, a Joslin patient, and shared how diabetes as a cause “hits home” for him as both of Varitek’s parents were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and his brother is living with type 1. The event raised more than $1.5 million dollars for Joslin’s High Hopes Fund.

Tomorrow night, Tresca in the North End is keeping the party going with a haute celebration featuring Boston’s beloved Big Papi. From 6 to 9 p.m., you can enjoy a four-course dinner with David Ortiz featuring an autumn harvest salad with candied pecans, caramelized onions and warm goat cheese to start before moving onto spaghetti a la Dominicana, pan seared Chilean sea bass with coconut jasmine rice and black bean salsa and the grand sweet finale of coconut pecan bread pudding with vanilla bean gelato and bourbon caramel sauce. Guests will also enjoy Arias Wines by David Ortiz and Big Papi cigars.

Boston Bruins legend and Tresca’s co-owner Ray Bourque told us, “I am pleased to announce a special wine dinner with Red Sox legend David Ortiz to launch his Arias wine in the North End at our restaurant Tresca.  “A night with the legends” will feature the four-course dinner created by my partner Rich Ansara, offering our guests a Dominican flavor in the North End. David and I are excited to host this truly memorable evening that will benefit my new charity, The Bourque Family Foundation, as well as the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.  A few seats remain and can be purchased by calling Tresca directly at 617-742-8240.”
