Republican pundits are up in arms over Anna Wintour’s fundraising efforts for Barack Obama’s presidential reelection bid. The Vogue editor appeared in a video released by the Obama camp last week pledging her support for the incumbent and raffling off a pair of seats to a dinner she’s co-hosting with Sarah Jessica Parker at Parker’s West Village home.
Former Fox News anchor Glenn Beck railed against the fashion doyenne’s announcement on his radio show, saying “She was the devil part,” in reference to 2006 movie The Devil Wears Prada, a thinly-veiled account of the daily terror Wintour inspired in Vogue staffers. “She was the person who was actually in the movie treating her co-workers… like garbage, waiting on her every whim. She is what [Obama] says capitalists are like all the time.” In print, staunchly conservative New York Post columnist Jon Podhoretz described Wintour as a “horror show” and slammed a hypothetical, fashion-friendly menu of “three lettuce leaves without dressing with a Tic Tac for dessert” at the June 14 dinner.
Wintour has personally given $96,000 to Democrat candidates since 2004, and helped raise over $500,000 from others as a top Obama “bundler.”
