An automobile auction has set a world record for their sale of a 1970’s Porsche racecar. The two day auction produced combined sales of $18.6 millions, with the Porsche selling for a total of $3,965,000 million. This sale of the racecar officially set the world record for the most expensive Porsche ever sold in auction.

Nicky Hilton has announced the release of her new jewelry line. The 26-year-old socialite has previously worked in fashion, teaming up with the Japanese line Samantha Thavasa to design handbags, as well as an attempt to launch her own clothing line, named Chick by Nicky Hilton. With those two experiences on her resume, she is now aiming to introduce herself to the world as a jewelry designer.

It’s not every day that a crew member gets to christen a yacht. Then again, it’s not every day that a yacht like Cakewalk is launched. Measuring 281 feet and displacing nearly 3,000 gross tons, Cakewalk, built by Derecktor Shipyards, is the largest American-built yacht in terms of length in more than 70 years. Equally significant, it’s largest ever built stateside in terms of volume. Cakewalk slipped into the water on August 8 at Derecktor’s shipyard in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

It's good to see some local boutiques carry pieces by Dallas designers. What's even better is seeing some Dallas designers create their own boutique--inside a shopping mall. That's the legend of Elli Grace,a store inside The Shops at Willow Bend in Plano that opened last year at the hands of designers Sue Young and Lamarr Nanton.

Elm Street appears to be the first artery of Deep Ellum to get the blood pumping again, and boy are we glad to see it. After the reinstatement of live music venue Trees last year (they celebrated their one year anniversary last night to a packed house,) neighbor Green Room was the next in line to see a much-anticipated comeback.

The American Airlines Center, House of Blues, Superpages.com Center...all the "big" names in live music appear at these super-stadiums, from Lady Gaga and Heart to Pat Green and Jack Johnson. It's not like I am against such behemoth stages or headliners, but for the sake of this blog, I'd rather highlight some independent Dallas venues, those that have either survived the sad collapse of Deep Ellum, or risen like a pheonix from the ashes.

You're probably familiar with the dinner and a movie concept, a la Studio Movie Grill. It's not a new idea, nor is it typically known as a luxe dining experience; pizza, nachos and and burgers being the normal fare, with a few salads and beer buckets thrown in. Not to mention the banquet-style seating at such venues, with rigid chairs in such close proximity to those behind you that it's difficult to hear Angelina's sultry monologue over the smacking and slurping.

Two words always seem to magically pop up, like CO2 during fermentation, when people discuss sparkling wine – celebration and Champagne. But why save the bubbles for a special occasion? And who said anything about Champagne?

The French do everything right. Cooking, kissing, styling hair...not to mention fashion. Which is why the appearance of a new Façonnable store inside the Galleria Mall is so exciting...or, in other words, très chic.
