Haute Event: Stephen Silver Blue Diamond Party
On Sept. 21, Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry celebrated the admission of the Cullinan Blue Diamond Necklace into the National Gem and Mineral Collection at The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History at the Rosewood Sand Hill Resort in Menlo Park.
During the event, models wore gowns by Emily Jane accessorized of course with Stephen Silver Jewelry. The special guest of the evening was Kathryn Crosby, who was the last person to wear the necklace before it entered the museum.
The necklace, which is more than 100 years old, has a total of 30 carats, with its main stone a fancy blue 2.6-carat diamond with smaller blue and white diamonds along the chain. It was commissioned back in 1905 by Sir Thomas Cullinan, the owner of the famous Premier diamond mine in South Africa. It remained in the Cullinan family until Sir Thomas’ great-granddaughter sold it to Stephen Silver.
The beautiful necklace will be on display adjacent to the Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian’s Winston Gallery through spring 2011. It will then be permanently moved to the National Gem Gallery.
