Frank Gehry Hong Kong Apartment Sold for $55.4 Million

A luxury Frank Gehry-designed apartment in Hong Kong has sold for $55.4 million. The apartment is located in the first residential project in Asia for Gehry, called Opus.
The apartment is spread across the entire eighth floor of Hong Kong’s Opus building, a trademark Gehry building with curving surfaces. The apartment was sold for $8,000 a square foot, making it the second highest price per square foot in the world.
Set high above downtown Hong Kong, Opus is a 12-unit sandstone-and-glass building with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. The building also has wrap-around teak-line balconies reminiscent of a ship’s deck.
According to reports, the buyers is an elderly Hong Kong woman whose family is the sole dealer for a brand of lighting fixtures. A source indicates the family intends to rent the apartment as an investment.
The Opus building is widely considered the most prestigious building in the city.
Frank Gehry is a world-renowned architect known for the curving Guggenheim museum in Bilbao.
