Haute Auto: Tesla Model X

Tesla’s Model X perfectly combines the benefits of an electric car with the convenience of a mini van and design features of an SUV. Built around the driver, the Tesla Model X is a family-oriented vehicle with advanced performance elements.
The Model X Design prototype was reveiled on February 9, 2012 and production of the car is expected to begin in late 2013 with “significant deliveries” beginning in early 2014. The vehicle has a lower center of gravity than traditional SUV’s, allowing for unexpected performance for a car of its size. It is offered with optional Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and features a second motor that enables all-weather, all-road capabilities.
The Model X is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds when outfitted with AWD, making it faster than most SUVs and even some sports cars. Able to comfortably seat six passengers and a driver, the Model X features easy third-row access. Second-row seats slide all the way forward and with the Falcon Wing doors of the Model X, it’s easier than ever to jump in and out of the vehicle. The Falcon Wings open up above the vehicle and allow for functionality even in tight spaces.
Designed around the driver, the Model X features premium interior surfaces and panoramic glass. A futuristic dashboard is Tesla Touchscreen, making it easy and quick to get information and entertainment while on the road.
Model X does not use gasoline, but is rather powered by a 60 or 85 kWh battery, significantly reducing your emissions when driving.
Pricing information for the Model X has not yet been released, though the company says it will be priced comparably to a similarly equipped Tesla Model S.
