Victoria Beckham Says The Spice Girls Tour Is NOT Happening

What exactly is happening? Victoria Beckham has counter responded that she and the Spice Girls will NOT be going on tour after all.

“I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour,” said Beckham in an interview with Vogue UK during a preview of her autumn/winter 2018 collection, which will show at New York Fashion Week.

Just last week Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, and Beckham all reunited. Individually, they took to Instagram to post an image of their reunion at Halliwell’s home.

“We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for the Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together,” said the Spice Girls in a statement to Entertainment via publicist Jo Milloy.

Upon reading the word “opportunities together,” perhaps everyone’s wishful thinking led them to believe those opportunities “together,” meant a tour. But in fact, it was Beckham’s interview with Vogue UK that reveals 1) the hesitation and 2) a hint at what those unidentified opportunities could be.

“You know, there’s so much bad stuff going on, and the Spice Girls were about fun and celebrating individuality. I think there’s so much that the brand can do, and it’s such a positive message for young kids. What does that look like in the future? It’s not me in a cat-suit,” the designer noted with a wink,” said Beckham.

With the terrorist bombing attack at Ariana Grande’s Boston concert in 2017, it’s enough to scare the Spice Girls out of a tour.  However,  the rise of the Times Up and Me Too movements means women empowerment is at the forefront. That could have inspired the Spice Girls reunion at Geri Halliwell’s house, potentially lending their well-branded Girl Power persona to activism “opportunities,” for the future of girls everywhere.
