The global non-profit organization, Women in Music, hosted its inaugural event for the newly-initiated Miami chapter on Thursday, May 3rd at the stunning EAST, Miami hotel, located in the brand-new Brickell City Centre. The kick-off event invited Miami’s most influential women in the music industry to come chat and mingle with fellow music executives involved in the organization. The afternoon featured a gourmet three-course lunch catered by the hotel, but most notably featured an exciting panel discussion with one of the leading forces of women in the music/tech industry: Sandra Jimenez, Head of Music, YouTube & GPM of Latin America.

Jimenez walked the group through the ever-changing music/tech industry, explaining the vast power of social media and YouTube, and how that plays a key role in the music industry and up-and-coming artists’ ability to get their product out there for the masses to hear. Among many things, the group learned that a staggering 45-percent of the music we listen to online comes from YouTube, and that the platform has 1 million active viewers using YouTube daily.

Thus, YouTube is undoubtedly one of the most important resources for players in the music industry to utilize and be heard from, and Jimenez showed the group how to get the most of their YouTube account—showing detailed statistics of viewer counts, reach, audience demographics and so much more. And at the end of the discussion, she shared an exciting secret—YouTube will be launching a Music App that incorporates all of their different capabilities into one, easy app for users to access anywhere on the go. More information will be released soon on this exciting project, so stay tuned.
