Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been considered a style icon since she entered the public sphere and on her recent tour of Asia and the South Pacific with husband Prince William, Middleton shined once again and demonstrated the art of diplomatic dressing.
Wearing a custom-made, Kimono-style Jenny Packham dress, Middleton was a showstopper as she walked through Singapore’s Botanical Gardens, where the royal couple had an orchid named after them. The pink outfit had a De Gournay orchid pattern, a flowing hemline, lightweight material, a pale hue and hints of a kimono coming through in the wrap detail and silk material.
True to her more conservative yet fashion-forward style, Middleton’s dress had long sleeves and a modest length.
Middleton has worn Packham dresses before, including one with thousands of sequins during her first royal engagement after her wedding. She also wore a turquoise lacy dress at an Olympic gala.
After her visit to the Singapore Botanical Gardens, the Duchess changed at the Raffles Hotel and returned wearing a purple and cream printed silk dress by Singapore-born designer Prabal Gurung. The dress, which is from the Prabal Gurung Spring/Summer 2012 collection, features three-quarter length sleeves and a just-above-the-knee hemline.
According to Prabal, “The women I like dressing always have a strength of mind and real character. It’s about the content of their heart and mind. Kate, like the First Lady [Michelle Obama], is representative of that ideal. She is very democratic in the way she dresses. She never behaves badly and we live in a world where people become famous for falling out of a taxi drunk. And then there’s Kate – poised, looking like she’s enjoying herself and holding onto her integrity.”
