Haute 100 Update: Kobe Bryant to Play in Mia Hamm’s Celebrity Soccer Match for Charity

News | July 29, 2011

L.A. Lakers legend and Haute 100 Los Angeles member Kobe Bryant will don some cleats for a change to play in women’s soccer star Mia Hamm’s Celebrity Soccer Challenge for charity this Sunday, July 31, at the waterfront Kastles Stadium in Washington, D.C.

The celebrity match-up was inspired by Hamm’s brother, Garrett Hamm, who passed away after an incompatible bone marrow transplant for his rare blood disorder, aplastic anemia. The soccer match is now in its fourth year and is the largest annual charity event for the Mia Hamm Foundation. Each year, the event registers 200 to 300 potential bone marrow donors and also introduces survivors to their anonymous donors during the match’s halftime.

Bryant, who grew up playing soccer in Italy, will take to the field for the 7-on-7 exhibition with many local and national celebrities, including Georgetown’s Jeff Green, Washington Capitals’ defenseman John Carlson, “Around the Horn” host Tony Reali, and U.S. Women’s World Cup players Alex Morgan and Ali Krieger.
