Ten New York Restaurants That Called It Quits in 2009

With the way things have been shutting down in the past year, attention should be paid to those notable New York eateries that have since closed their doors.

1. Fiamma
This Soho Italian restaurant closed it doors on January 14^th. Leaving the location to run as a full service events space. Chef Fabio Trabocchi did not stay on for that project.

2. Fleur de Sel
Not even the Michelin stared high-end French restaurant could fight off the gloomy economy. Fleur de Sel closed its doors on February 21^st.

3. Kobe Club
Located on the West 58^th Street Kobe Club closed on April 25^th. The restaurant gave a good fight in the  last two years of its existence, but 2009 was its break it year.

4. Ago
Over in Tribeca, Ago closed its doors on May 5^th. It had only been 119 days since the announcement that they would be closing when the restaurant shut down. The end came at the culmination of the Tribeca Film Festival.

5. Tailor
Tailor closed theirs doors in the summer of 2009.

6. Payard
And on the Upper East Side, the famed patisserie and bistro closed its doors on June 29. Due to a money-hungry landlord the shop was closed a month earlier than anticipated.

7. Elettaria
Elettaria’s last night happened on October 27. Its Greenwich Village location was just not working. After a year and a half of business Elettaria was kaput.

8. The John Dory
The Chelsea seafood restaurant closed its doors the very next day after Elettaria closed theirs. I guess the lesson here is location, location, location.

9. Le Souk
After authorities revoked Le Souk’s liquor license, two weeks later Le Souk was done right before the holidays on December second.

10. Craftsteak

Although not quite closing in 2009 Craftsteak will close its doors on January 1, 2010. Not to worry, reports suggest that Tom Colicchio will be opening a new restaurant in the same location called Colicchio and Sons.

Here is hoping 2010 turns out better.
