Saint Barts New Year’s Report: Battle Of The Mega-Yachts and Blowout Parties
St. Bart is ground zero for posh New Year’s Eve celebrations. But deep water docking in Gustavia harbor is in limited supply, so billionaires, used to getting exactly what it is they want, had to duke it out for prime spots. Unfortunately, according to a Daily Mail Report, Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich had to dock The Eclipse, his 536 foot long super yacht a little too close to another megaship owned by Qatari Prime Minister Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani for his taste. But it couldn’t have been too much of a problem for Abramovich, who has a large estate on the island where he throws the mother of all New Year’s parties the last four years. This year was no exception. He hosted the party with girlfriend Dasha Zhukova, which included a performance by Kings of Leon. In past years he has booked The Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce and Prince, so we know he has great taste in music. It appears he has pretty good taste in friends too. Martha Stewart, Russell Simmons, George Lucas, Wendi Murdoch and quite possibly the Qatari Minister himself were all in attendance to take in the $7 million dollar fete. Guests were reportedly put up on The Eclipse. Now that’s Haute!
