Richard Branson to Build Upscale Hotel in San Francisco

Billionaire Richard Branson has launched a slew of successful business ventures through the Virgin Group. From mobile phones, to music megastores and beyond, this entrepreneur has a portfolio of over 360 companies and plans to add one more. Branson has recently announced plans to launch a line of Virgin Hotels.

According to the Virgin Hotels website, the hotels will cater to “high income, well-educated, metropolitan ‘creative class’ customers,”. These destinations will be erected in urban areas, with initial plans to open venues in a handful of U.S.cities. On their list are New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Miami, Los Angeles, and our fair city, San Francisco. Though these are the current set of locations, Branson hopes to eventually expand to over 25 over the next 10 years.

Upon announcing the plans to build these luxury hotels, Branson stated, “I’ve had great fun turning quite a lot of different industries on their heads and making sure those industries would never be the same because Virgin took them on.” Virgin Group will be dedicating $500 million to the Virgin Hotel project. Their key goals are to host guests in four star quality hotels, located in major North American cities. Their buildings will have between 150-400 rooms with ample communal space.
