Triple Threat: After Hours Building is a Chic Gallery, Office, and Residence

Completed in 2008, the After Hours Building is a two-story, contemporary aluminum structure on the north side of McDowell Road at North First Avenue in downtown. Just 1,200 square feet, the owners and architect made stellar use of the space available, as the building houses an art gallery, offices, and a penthouse residence. Located on the ground floor, After Hours Creative is a design company founded by the building’s owners and residents, Russ Haan and Mike Oleskow, that creates everything from corporate logos to greeting cards to iPhone applications. (The two men are also the founders of Max & Lucy, a brand specializing in fun and quirky paper products and gifts.)

Haan and Oleskow helped to concept the design of the unique building, which, although just two stories, has four levels, counting the basement. Glass windows on the ground level allow passersby to see into the After Hours Creative workspace, as well as into the gallery, which is open to the public during the First Fridays art walks. The second level contains the owners’ living space, and a third level, a floating mezzanine, houses the Haan and Oleskow’s private offices, as well as a room that serves as both a library and a guest suite, complete with a full bath.

A stunning, completely livable office-penthouse, the building also includes a large deck with a platformed spa, a spacious kitchen, an elevator in addition to the stairway, a wine cellar, fireplace, and a den-like area where Haan and Oleskow like to entertain guests, sometimes even by playing the eye-catching grand piano in the center of the room.

Check out the After Hours Building on a First Friday night, as the gallery showcases a new art opening each time, or even consider reserving the building for your next intimate gathering. The gallery and the penthouse and patio are available for rent, with even a few overnight options that allow guests to stay in the luxe residential suite, complete with a queen bed, a 52-inch flat-screen TV, and a double walk-in shower.
