Party on the Slopes

For the most part, ski towns are usually pretty sleepy in the sense of real late night action. If you’re an avid skier or boarder and hit the slopes all day, normally your muscles are pretty sore, your skin, wind burned, and you hair, well, we won’t even go there. At the end of a long day on the slopes, a stealthy glass of red wine and a long soak in the hot tub is pretty much heaven. But you could probably muster up some strength to party it up a bit if there were any places worthwhile in whatever snow-covered town you’re visiting. Well, if you plan on visiting any of the resort towns below, I can promise that you’ll find the strength to go out after cruising the powdered trails all day. The glass of wine and hot tub soak will just be part of your preparation in getting ready for the evening’s festivities.

Aspen, Colorado is an obvious spot and for good reason. With so many big name acts like Paul Oakenfold and Ben Harper coming through, the music scene stays very much alive here. So if you’re into seeing live performances, this is definitely the place to be. If a more low key yet uber swanky atmosphere is more your style, check out Sky Hotel’s 39 Degrees Bar which offers fabulous cocktails and an even better crowd. Bariloche, Argentina is the best place to go if you want to club your little ski-bibbed booty off into the wee morning hours. Clubs really don’t start popping here until at least midnight though. However, when you are ready to to go out here, you have plenty of choices. Roket has four floors of dancing and Grisu has six. Then there’s also Cerebro which is said to have killer light shows. These venues will leave you contemplating if you even remember how to ski the next day. Good times.

Chamonix, France is just an all around winner when it comes to offering a little of this and a little of that. This resort town offers everything from posh bars and lounges, to spectacular live music venues, to late-night club scenes.  It was the host of the first winter games in 1924 so oh yeah, it obviously has great skiing as well. Wait a minute, we came here to ski? Exactly.

When you think of a resort town in the Alps with scenery so beautiful it would drop any jaw, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy is probably what you’re picturing. And not only is it absolutely gorgeous, the after-slope activities are also fabulous. When visiting, make sure to stop by the Hacker-Pschorr beerhouse, located at the back of the Hotel Royal as well as the VIP Club to spot, well, all the hot VIPs. Did I just go there? Why yes I did. Moving on.

Switzerland is another obvious place to go for both skiing and partying, and towns Zermatt, Verbier, and Gstaad are all places on the top of the must-go list. Others worth mentioning include Kitzbühel and St. Anton am Arlberg, both located in Austria. So squeeze into those bibs, fasten those bindings, and get ready to party.
