Bring It On Pisa! Hyatt Reaches the Top of Leaning Hotel

There’s a new kid in town bringing some competition to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Meet Hyatt’s first Abu Dhabi hotel- Hyatt at Capital Center. Rumored to hold its place in the Guinness Book of World Records, the hotel leans in four times as far as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and houses 189 rooms. Take that old world architecture.

Construction of the hotel has reached its mark in what seems like a short amount of time, back in June the structure was only at its half way point, and the images of what the world’s most crooked hotel looks like are fluttering about everywhere. Built by RMJM Architects the hotel is completely safe, unlike some other leaning buildings; this was designed to withstand the high winds and earthquakes associated with the location. The architects designed each pane of glass to be different and fitted it onto the reinforced structure.

Standing tall at 168 meters and a whopping 18-degree lean, the five star hotels will be housed near the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. Which means not only is this architectural gem is setting world records and bringing an old world landmark to shame, it is also expected to take some tourist attention from its neighboring city, Dubai.

The hotel also boasts a swimming pool suspended 263 feet above the ground, an internal atrium, and a tea lounge. There is no set opening date just yet, though the hotel anticipates opening in late 2010. Either way it is safe to say that these rooms will not remain vacant for long.
