The American Film Institute’s AFI FEST kicked off with a bang on November 10 with the opening night gala and world premiere of Rules Don’t Apply.

Many of the behemoth films cast and crew were on hand at the TCL Chinese Theater, including director, screenwriter and star Warren Beatty and his wife and co-star Annette Bening, Haley Bennett, Oliver Platt, Lily Collins, Alden Ehrenreich, Taissa Farmiga and Matthew Broderick.

The film, which also co-stars Ed Harris, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen and Chace Crawford, is the unconventional love story of an aspiring actress, her determined driver, and the eccentric billionaire who they work for.

During the premiere, the 2017 Audi R8 made a special red carpet appearance, in addition to the 2017 Audi Q7, which chauffeured VIPs Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, as well as Haley Bennett and Taissa Farmiga.

Audi’s prominent appearance is a natural fit given that the auto brand is a presenter of the festival, a celebration of global cinema and today’s Hollywood — a showcase for the best festival films of the year and an opportunity for master filmmakers and emerging artists to come together with audiences in the movie capital of the world. AFI FEST, now in its 30th edition, is the only festival of its stature that is free to the public. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes AFI FEST as a qualifying festival for both Short Film categories for the annual Academy Awards.

In addition to Rules Don’t Apply, Robert De Niro debuted his stand-up role, The Comedian, with Danny DeVito, Leslie Mann and Patti Lupone; David O. Russell celebrated the 20th anniversary of Flirting With Disaster; Natalie Portman became former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Jackie and Isabelle Huppert was honored and simultaneously debuted Elle.
Still to come: the world premiere of the hotly anticipated film La La Land with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling; 20th Century Women with Annette Bening and Elle Fanning; and Peter Berg‘s Patriot’s Day with Mark Wahlberg, J.K. Simmons and Kevin Bacon, which will close the festival on November 17.

AFI Fest runs through Nov. 17, 2016Â
