James Beard Foundation Announces Semi-Finalists

The prestigious James Beard Foundation has announced the semi-finalists for the annual award coveted by national chefs and restaurants. Los Angeles was well represented in the categories with numerous local chefs and restaurants making the list.

Those who appreciate the true art of cooking, chefs and restaurants all wait patiently for the annual announcement of one of the nation’s most prestigious and coveted awards: the James Beard Foundation Award. Recognizing some of the best of the best, the award gives credit to newcomers and long-time favorites alike. The foundation has just announced its list of semi-finalists and nods were given to a slew of Los Angeles-based restaurants and chefs.

Finalists will be announced on March 19 and the award will be presented in New York on May 7.

Los Angeles semi-finalists include:

MB Post in Manhattan Beach and Piccain Los Angeles for Best New Restaurant; Rivera in Los Angeles for Outstanding Bar Program; Suzanne Goin of Lucques in Los Angeles and Nancy Silverton of Pizzeria Mozza in Los Angeles for Outstanding Chef; Dahlia Narvaez of Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles for Outstanding Pastry Chef; Patina in Los Angeles for Outstanding Restaurant; CUT at Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, Hatfield’s in Los Angeles and Patina in Los Angeles for Outstanding Wine Program and Josef Centeno of The Lazy Ox Canteen in Los Angeles, Michael Cimarusti of Providence in Los Angeles, David Féau of The Royce at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, David LeFevre of MB Post in Manhattan Beach, Matt Molina of Osteria Mozza in Los Angeles, John Rivera Sedlar of Rivera in Los Angeles, Paul Shoemaker of Savory in Malibu and  Hiroyuki Urasawa of Urasawa in Beverly Hills for Best Chef: Pacific.

The Beard Awards cover all aspects of the industry, from chefs and restaurants to cookbook authors and food journalists to restaurant designers and architects. The award is the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North American. The award is presented each spring at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York.
