New York Weekend Preview: Trains, Lights, And Skating Nights
It’s the most wonderful time of the year in New York. While everyone is gathering their things together to leave town for the holiday season to visit family and friends, the city is hosting some of its most festive events of the season this last week before Christmas, and right in the middle of Hanukkah. Here are some of our favorites to check out!
The Ninth Annual Latke Festival
While there’s plenty of fun things going on outside, staying in and cooking up a feast may be the most important thing to do. This year’s latke festival will take place on Monday at the Brooklyn Museum. Some of the best cooks in the city will be flocking to the museum to show of their wares of the fried potato Hanukkah delights. Be sure to get there early for the freshest samplings.
Location: 2000 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn
Holiday Train Show
Those looking to head north to the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx are in for quite a show. The annual Holiday Train Show fills the great room with a magical interworking of rails and trails for the trains to travel around, weaving in and out of plant exhibitions in the greenhouse era. It’s enough to give anyone the inspiration their looking for when building their train under the Christmas tree. Tickets only cost $25 too!
Location: 2900 Southern Boulevard, Bronx
Late Skate At Bryant Park’s Winter Rink
For the magic of the holiday season, Bryant Park’s ice skating rink is opening its doors later than usual to make sure everyone gets to slide around the ice for a while. Rather than waiting in line at Wollman Rink in Central Park or, heaven forbid, the rink at Rockefeller Center, the Bryant Park rink is always less crowded, which means more room for your to do that triple axel. (Or, you know, less people to see you wipe out.)
