Haute Opening: The Daiquiri Factory Opens in Midtown
Then a few months ago, I spotted a sign that said The Daiquiri Factory. Recently, I decided to stop in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised as well as a little (actually a lot ) tipsy. The concept, as you can tell by the name, is Daiquiris, and the whole theme of the Midtown restaurant is Island Oasis. Wood floors, bamboo-esque bars and fans made out of wooden leaves are the main decorating elements of the spot. But it is the daiquiris, ranging from strong, very strong to lethal that take the prize.

Last night Dennis Basso and Michael Cominotto put together a black tie gala for Silver Hill Hospital at Cipriani 42nd Street. With the help of their friends, Michael and Dennis raised more than $1 million, which will go toward young people who can't afford the rehab facility. After a detox program at the hospital, if a patient wants to stay on, he or she must to commit to four weeks at $1,000 a night. The cause is very important to Michael — Silver Hill saved his life. Last night in his honor, Silver Hill named a house on their property after him.
