Haute Event: St. Regis Hotels & Resorts Celebrates Opening of Newest Location

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, guests gathered at the historic St. Regis hotel in New York City to celebrate the opening of the brand’s newest location, the St. Regis, Bahia Beach in Puerto Rico. This will be the St. Regis’ 21st location worldwide, an amazing feat for the luxury hotel brand, which has nearly doubled its number of locations in the past two years.

The St. Regis New York, located just blocks from the southeast corner of Central Park, was once home to the brand’s founder, John Jacob Astor IV, for whom the evening paid tribute to. The event also honored the late Caroline Astor, John Jacob’s mother, by the unveiling of an exclusive jewelry collection by Alexis Bittar. “The” Mrs. Astor was well-known in New York society in the early 1900s for her extensive collection of fine jewelry.

Singer Kat Edmonson performed Jazz numbers accompanied by a five piece Jazz band while guests mingled throughout the second floor of the St. Regis, enjoying hors d’oeuvres by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who will be the chef at the new St. Regis Bahia Beach’s Fern restaurant. Attendees were also able to bid on pieces from the St. Regis jewelry collection and other coveted prizes during a silent auction, from which proceeds will go directly to UNICEF’s Education for All program.

The guest-list of the glamorous soiree included some of Manhattan’s social elite, including Brooke Shields, Jason Wu, and St. Regis global brand leader, Paul James, along with the event’s host committee, Olivia Chantecaille, Ren Grady, Zani Gugelmann, Mary Alice Stephenson, Lucy Sykes and Euan Rellie.

Though the St. Regis brand has reached the magical 21, it does not plan on stopping at this milestone number. Instead, the St. Regis has announced it will open hotels in at least 15 more cities worldwide in the next few years.
