Fort Mason—specifically the Fog Design + Art fair preview gala—was the place to be on Wednesday night. Over 2,200 elite guests attended the kick-off to the fifth annual Fog Fair, which continues through the weekend. Interior designers mingled with socialites and tech founders while eyeing the goods from 45 intentionally known art and design galleries.

Event impresario Stanlee Gatti, who’s also a member of the fair’s steering committee, ensured that a rollicking party was had by all. Roving food stations with everything from tamales to tater tots made their way through the crowd offering hungry revelers a snack. There was also buffets overflowing with food—cheese and charcuterie, sushi and dumplings, lamb chops and mashed potatoes. McCalls catering oversaw the spread and it was a delicious feast with something for every palette. A16, which is running a pop-up restaurant at the fair, presented the cocktails.

Highlights of the fair? Homeplate, this year’s 21Pop, Gatti’s annual installation, that was a luxurious collection of ceramic plates designed by Len Carella, Linda Fahey, MaryMar Keenan, Nicholas Newcomb, and Malinda Reich. A gorgeous crystal chandelier with a creature hanging off of it—Barnaby Barford’s Chandelier Jungle V.I.P. courtesy of David Gill Gallery. Zaha Hadid’s shiny clear Liquid Glacial coffee table, also at the David Gill Gallery. A collection of Belgium pop artist Pol Mara’s work curated by the Jason Jacques Gallery. Everything that the Paul Yasmin Gallery was showing including François-Xavier Lalanne‘s Gorille Derange, a bronze gorilla head, and Claude Lalanne’s golden table, Bureau Croco. Luring Augstine’s Christopher Wool abstracts were also noteworthy.

As for the crowd, it was fun mix of the standard society players (Vanessa Getty, Katie Traina, and Sobia Shaikh), art bigwigs (Sabrina Buell, Max Hollein, and Bob Fisher) and new comers on the scene (Emily P. Wheeler, Chrisa Pappas, and Kaitlyn Krieger).

Fog Design + Art Fair runs now through Sunday.
