Cool as ice, Roka Akor is bringing a chic Japanese flair to the Jackson Square District area of North Beach. The stylish steak, seafood and sushi restaurant with counterparts Scottsdale, Arizona and Chicago, Illinois specializes in robata “open charcoal” cuisine led by the talented Executive Chef Roman Petry.  Petry, who has more than 13 years of experience in international kitchens has partnered with bar manager Daniel Hyatt and certified sommelier Kiet Le (who most recently managed the Michelin-starred Luce at the InterContinental San Francisco) who will oversee general management.

The absolutely gorgeous space begins with an open dining area: blonde wood tables, an open layout and a full view of several large Japanese robata grills.  The menu is designed for sharing (and thank goodness! Who can make choices between so many delectable menu items?).

Make your way down to the basement bar and lounge area where dimly lit sultriness envelops the space and the senses.  While lounge seating lines the space, the highlight of the downstairs bar area is certainly the back-lit bar that features one large block of ice as its centerpiece.  (Yes, the ice is freshly chiseled as drinks are made to order.)  Headed up by Daniel Hyatt, the mastermind behind The Alembic Bar’s cocktail program, Hyatt focuses on simplicity and seasonality to create great cocktails.  His cocktail expertise has earned national recognition from the likes of GQ, Esquire, Food & Wine, and The New York Times.

If it takes any more convincing, check out the photos from last month’s launch.
