Over the course of eight weeks, the Aspen Music Festival & School has put on more than 300 events during its busy schedule. Come Monday, it will all be done. But not before a few sweet, final shows. On Aug. 15 and 17, the Aspen Opera Theater performs Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at the Wheeler Opera House. It is the third scheduled opera of the summer.

For the grand finale, there is a Wagner and Verdi bicentennial celebration featuring Eric Owens and Heidi Melton on Sunday, Aug. 18. American bass-baritone Eric Owens, who starred as Alberich in the Metropolitan Opera’s most recent Ring Cycle will sing Verdi’s “Ella giammai m’amò” from Don Carlo; dramatic soprano Heidi Melton will sing Wagner’s conclusion to Ring Cycle. The final performance takes place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, and tickets are $78. But, as always, the public is invited to bring a picnic basket and blankets to enjoy the sounds on the lawn surrounding the Benedict Music Tent.
