D & G Parts With Selfridges After A ‘Giant Row’
The fashion world is a cutthroat place to be and don’t think that once you’re at the top you’re safe from bust ups, tantrums, and clashes of super-sized egos.
Following an alleged fall-out with Selfridges, D&G will no longer be stocked at the famous designer store from Spring 2011.
The bust-up is said to have come after Selfridges proposed to change in-store positions of Dolce & Gabbana and D&G lines.
It’s still unclear whether Dolce & Gabbana had dropped Selfridges or vice versa but Selfridges were the first to release a statement saying that they wanted to refresh its brand mix.
“We constantly seek to improve the diversity and presentation of our brand portfolio and address the demands of our ever-evolving fashion and accessories departments. To this end we have found that we are unable to accommodate Dolce & Gabbana and D&G in our mix going forward,” it said.
Selfridges, bought by Canadian businessman Galen Weston in 2003, was recently named by retailers as the world’s best department store.
Dolce & Gabbana, founded by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in 1985, is best known for its bold, sexy style and is worn by celebrity cliental the world over. Madonna is a personal friend of the design duo.
