The Ultimate Family Cookoff: the Fieris vs. the Obamas

Who’s next on the celeb chef list at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (that’s the White House, in case you didn’t know)? No one other than the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives guy himself, of course! Famed chef and ultimate gangsta Guy Fieri and family are set to visit, and cook, with the First Family. The bad news: it will not be filmed (insert “awww, shucks” here).

To be honest, it is quite refreshing to have the Fieris take over the White House kitchen, even if for one short visit.  White house chef alums include Marcus Samuelsson, Mario Batali, Emeril, Bobby Flay and Miami-slash-Brit-fave Jonathan McCann. They’re known for their upscale, glam cuisine, so choosing someone from left-field has proven different (yet incredibly exciting) for the White House.

Don’t underestimate the Fieris, as they have already chosen the menu for the big day. Fieri senior tells Eater it’ll be, “a little Italian and something creative — a BLT sandwich made with duck.”

The Fieris and Obamas definitely have a lot to agree on: Guy talks about being a stickler for teaching through cooking, which is apparent as his 13-year-old son, Hunter, has appeared on dear ol’ Dad’s famous show to cook a number of times. It is no surprise then that the night will tie-in with First Lady Michelle Obama’s campaign to educate children about cooking and eating healthy foods.

“My 13-year-old son, Hunter, is going to cook with me. He’s done so before, on some of my ‘Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives’ Food Network show. I have strong feelings about educating children through the empowerment of cooking.”

That’s right, Guy Fieri. Rep your hometown proudly and show the First Family what you (and your family) are made of. Also, if you could save us some leftovers, that’d be great, thanks.
