Celebrate With Good Reason

It’s never too difficult to find a good reason to celebrate (i.e. Wednesday comes but once a week!). This Sunday, November 8, 2009 is no different.  The 23rd Annual Great Chefs of Los Angeles event benefiting the National Kidney Foundation will be held at noon at CBS Studios and needless to say, to not attend would be an haute crime de cuisine.

Past honorees have included Gino Angelini (Angelini Osteria, La Terza), Josiah Citrin (Melisse), and Raphael Lunetta (JiRaffe), with such participating chefs as Jason Travi (Fraiche), Neal Fraser (Grace), Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo (Animal), and Tim Goodell (25 Degrees) offering up dishes to delight every palate.

This year’s honored chefs are Neal Fraser of Grace and BLD, and Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger of Border Grill, Ciudad and the recently opened Street.  If you can think of a better place to be on Sunday than at an outdoor event trying to decide between going for seconds of omnipresent Italian chef Celestino Drago’s offerings or moving on to try what Govind Armstrong brings to the table, then by all means keep your plans.  Did we mention that those chefs will be joined by Jason Johnston (Dakota), Benjamin Ford (Ford’s Filling Station), Akasha Richmond (Akasha), Paolo Sicuro (Via Alloro), Steven Fritz (XIV), and a plethora of other local, culinary inclined friends?  Think of it as a one-stop opportunity to try food from all the chefs whose restaurants you’ve yet to visit – Culver City’s not that far when they bring it to CBS Studios…

In case your worried about exactly how to wash down all of these delectable dishes, libations will be provided by Duckhorn Vineyards, Jaffe Estate Wine, and Piper-Heidsieck, among others.  It’s quite clear that when honorary chairs Ann and George Lopez decide on a reason to celebrate… they go big, or go home.
