Don’t let the holiday cakes, cookies and cocktails, as well as the lower temperatures (well, by Arizona standards, anyway) put the big chill on your winter workout routine. And some snazzy new duds couldn’t hurt for re-firing your interest in exercise, right? Here are the Top 5 places in the Valley to score new athletic apparel.
1 Nike Town
Nike Town, located in the 28-acre Scottsdale Quarter, opened October 2010. It's the first store in the area (aside from two outlet stores) for the Oregon-based athletic gear brand, and covers a sprawling two stories and 2,000 square feet of retail space, with sections for men's and women's general athletic apparel, golf attire, basketball apparel, and shoes, shoes, shoes. Plus then some.

2 lululemon athletica
lululemon athletica was founded by Chip Wilson, a surfer, skater and snowboarder who eventually got hooked on yoga -- but not on the cotton clothing that was available for power yoga at the time. So he started making clothes with more technologically advanced fabric, using his business space as a design studio by day and as a yoga studio by night, where the apparel was worn by instructors and offered for sale. Via feedback from class attendees and the instructors, Wilson was able to fine-tune his designs, and in 2ooo, the first real store opened in Vancouver, B.C. Now the company has retail locations in about a dozen different countries, and we're pleased to have not one, but two, of the U.S. locations right here in our very own backyard. Though famous as a yoga apparel brand for men and women, we find the clothes to also be exceptional for many other sports and exercise activities. Bonus: Sometimes free yoga classes are offered at lululemon stores.

The company says it focuses on: performance and fashion, innovation and style, and working out and loving it. No wonder their clothing comes in bright and cheerful colors, feminine designs, high-tech fabrics and precise fits, all created with the intention of injecting some fun and style into your workout routine.

4 Sole Sports Running Zone
Sole Sports Running Zone is the place to go to get properly fitted for running shoes. Utilizing their "video gait analysis" process (in which they record your running style with a video camera as you hoof it on a treadmill and then take measurements on the tape to determine your left or right lean, strike and so on), the staff are able to find a shoe that will offer the best support possible for your running style, or even a shoe that can correct a certain aspect of your poor running posture. Additionally, the shop stocks a wide selection of running and walking apparel and accessories for both men and women (as well as children), including track spike, cross country flats, socks, compression apparel, and nutrition, injury prevention and safety products.
