Niall Ferguson and Byron Wien

The New York Historical Society’s 2010 History Makers Gala had more than 550 attendees and raised more than $2.7 million for the society’s educational programs and initiatives.

The society honored Niall Ferguson and Bryon Wien at the Waldorf-Astoria Starlight Roof. Niall Ferguson is a professor as well as critic on politics and economics. Ferguson also writes and reviews for the British and American Press, Financial Times and Newsweek. In 2004 Time magazine named Niall Ferguson as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. Bryon Wien is vice chairman of Blackstone Advisory Partners LP, where he examines economic, social and political developments to evaluate the course of financial markets to direct investment and strategic decisions. Wein has also co-authored Soros on Soros – Staying Ahead of the Curve. In 1998 Bryon Wien was named by First Call as the most widely read analyst on Wall Street, in 2004 he was named to the Smart Money Power 30 list and in 2006 he was named by New York Magazine as one of the 16 most influential people on Wall Street.

Notable guests of the evening included Henry and Nancy Kissinger, Carl Icahn, Diana and Joe DiMenna, James Tisch, Billie Tisch, Judy and Howard Berkowitz, Kathryn Wylde, Merryl Tisch, Roger Hertog and Dick Gilder.
