The Week in Review: San Francisco Symphony and Nicky Hilton; Upcoming Haute Event
We're still reeling in the fabulousness of this past week, which included the opening galas for the 103rd season of San Francisco Symphony and the 92nd season of San Francisco Opera. As if those two haute events weren't enough to keep San Francisco's glamour pusses busy, they also came out to support a visiting socialite, Nicky Hilton, who breezed through to promote her new book and attend her first San Francisco Symphony. Her lavish "sculptures" are sold at auctions at Sothebys, and Christie's to private collectors and exhibited at museums throughout the world. Chao and Sarah Jessica Parker are friends and have a mutual respect for the creative process. They partnered on a resplendent piece called the Black Label Masterpiece "Ballerina Butterfly" brooch which will be sold in October in tandem with the New York City Ballet Gala with net proceeds from its sale benefiting the ballet.

Top Chef Season 6 winner Michael Voltaggio is already known for creating haute cuisine at his Melrose eatery, ink., and now the master chef will also be known for his vino. Voltaggio, alongside Chris Pittenger of Skinner Vineyards, and wine discovery community Club W, launched RUST, a small-production "orange wine" late last month. The 2013 Rust Grenache Blanc, true to its name, is orange in color. Crafted like a red wine, the grape skins are left in contact with pressed juices, helping to establish its sun-kissed hue. Initial drafts of its aroma parallel with notes of tangerine, citrus peel, and some dry grassiness. On the palate, however, RUST begins like a full-bodied white, but delivers a finish one would find in a young, light-bodied red, making for a highly unique bottle. Here, Voltaggio discusses how the collaboration came to be, his dream RUST pairing menu and why orange is the new black (or red, as it were).

We sat down with Rob while he was promoting Genworth Financial Inc.'s #LetsTalk Tour, an initiative to help families start the conversation around long term care planning, at the Four Seasons Los Angeles in Beverly Hills last week.
