It took San Francisco Opera nearly a year to find a replacement for outgoing General Director David Gockley but in the end didn’t have to look very far. Matthew Shilvock, currently the Company’s Associate General Director, has been named General Director of San Francisco Opera and will assume his new position as the Company’s seventh director on August 1, 2016 with a five-year contract through July 2021.

The sold-out event, which took place Sept. 19 at Staglin Family Vineyard in Oakville, was the place to be in the Napa Valley this past weekend—and raised over $4 million to support the research to find cures for brain disorders.

Celebrated chef Thomas Keller has been ad libbing since January but won’t do so for much longer. Ad Lib, the pop-up restaurant he opened at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa eight months ago to serve a temporary need for The French Laundry will close Oct. 19 following the Frys.com Open.
