Pink 34-Carat Diamond Sold at NYC Auction for $39 Million
A 34.65-carat fancy intense pink diamond, known as “Princie,” sold for $39.3 million at Christie’s Spring Magnificent Jewels sale in New York yesterday. The diamond’s origins can be traced back to the ancient mines of Golconda in South Central India.
The rare jewel, which is considered one of the four most celebrated pink diamonds in the world, only enticed two bidders. After only two minutes of bidding, the diamond was awarded to Francois Curiel, international head of jewelry at Christies and president of Christies Asia, who bid on behalf of an anonymous client.
