Haute Weekend In Review: Dubai Airshow, Dior, Salma Hayek, Orlando Bloom & Ferrari

It was an incredibly haute weekend in the UAE as The Dubai Air Show awed attendees, Jetman Dubai pulled off an incredible aeronautical feat, Youssef Nabil’s latest film, I Saved My Belly Dancer opened, Christian Dior’s Le Theatre Dior exhibition drew in fashionistas and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi officially opened the stunning Festival of Lights.

DUBAI AIRSHOW: ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE ALSO BOASTS STUNNING AERONAUTICAL DISPLAYS THROUGHOUT WEEK

More than 65,000 visitors are slated to attend the Dubai Airshow, making it the largest airshow to date. The airshow runs every two years and takes place at Al Maktoum Airport. This year the show runs November 8-12, 2015. 

The Dubai Airshow boasts an incredible A-list roster, including heads of state, royal families and the heads of some of the world’s biggest aeronautical companies. Dubai residents and those here for the airshow will be sure to keep their eyes on the sky, as multiple displays and events featuring assorted aircraft are planned, including he F22 fighter jet, B1 bomber and Eurofighter.

The Dubai Airshow is set to surpass the record-breaking $206 billion in aircraft orders that were signed during the 2013 event, as deals worth almost $30 billion were agreed to on Monday. Among those agreeing new purchases were some of the paramount names in the aerospace industry, including Boeing and Jet Airways. 

Since 2001 the Dubai Airshow has doubled in size and has become a highly anticipated global event that is shoulder to shoulder with the Paris and Farnborough exhibitions.

The trade visitor show features a viewing area with entertainment for members of the public who want to get up to close to some of the world’s most advanced civilian and military aircraft. More than 160 aircraft will be on display during the week, including double decker A380s operated by Emirates and Qatar Airways while flydubai will bring its 737-800.

JETMAN DUBAI PERFORMED STUNNING FORMATION WITH AN EMIRATES A380

The Jetman Dubai collaborated with Emirates A380 to perform an incredible event in the skies of Dubai.

The phenomenal aerial showcase was conducted over the Palm Jumeirah and Dubai skyline with Burj Khalifa. The formation involved Emirates A380 flying at 4,000 feet in two holding patterns as the Jetmen Dubai leapt from a helicopter that hovered above the aircraft at 5,500 feet. Emirates is the largest operator of the A380 double-decker aircraft and has been setting benchmarks in the industry for its state of the art technological advancements and environmental footprint. The Emirates A380 currently flies to 34 destinations from Dubai.

YOUSSEF NABIL’S LATEST EXHIBITION FEATURING SALMA HAYEK DEBUTS

Youssef Nabil’s second short film, I Saved My Belly Dancer starring Salma Hayek debuted in Paris over the weekend and is set to premier in January at the Third Line gallery in Dubai.

The Egyptian artist Nabil created the 12 minute short film in “celebration and mourning of the art of belly dancing,” true to his nostalgic nature. The exhibition will feature both the short film as well as 26 hand-painted images inspired by the picture.

A dream sequence in I Saved My Belly Dancer, features Hayek as the last proverbial belly dancer who comforts Nabil as she performs a final dance along the shores of the Egyptian coastline.

Le Théâtre Dior CELEBRATES THE TALENTS OF CHRISTIAN DIOR 

An exhibition celebrating world renowned designer Christian Dior opened at The Dubai Mall over the weekend. The exhibit will until November 24 in the mall’s Fashion Catwalk Atrium. 

Le Théâtre Dior provides a unique perspective inside the world of couture as it reveals its designs in miniature form.

Sixty of Dior’s most enduring looks have been painstakingly reproduced in the atelier, and are presented in exact, miniature form. Each detail of the designs stays true to the original, including the methods of design and the fabrics used. 

The exhibition escorts attendees on a chronological journey from Dior’s first collection in 1947 through present day. Featuring clothes, sketches, inspiration boards and photographs, Le Théâtre Dior documents 12 chapters. 

This is a haute event not to be missed by fashionistas.

BRITISH AIRWAYS EXCLUSIVE BASH ON ZAYA ISLAND DRAWS A-LISTERS, INCLUDING ORLANDO BLOOM

Zaya Nurai Island was the secret haute spot to be over the weekend as British Airways hosted an A-List event to mark the launch of its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and the new daily London-Abu Dhabi-Muscat service. VIP’s on hand included Orlando Bloom and Margot Robbie.

Flying in for the exclusive event off of Abu Dhabi, Bloom noted, “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved to travel. There’s nothing quite like the luxury of the new First cabin on British Airways. I’m sure it will be warmly received by British Airways’s passengers in Abu Dhabi. I have no doubt that travelers will love it.”

Built for those with the most discerning of tastes and wealthiest of wallet, the Boeing 787-9’s luxury First Cabin seats eight passengers, rather than the standard 14 on other models. The haute aircraft is also 20 feet longer than the existing 787-8, boasting windows 30 percent larger than that of its predecessor. 

INDIAN AMBASSADOR LIGHTS UP FERRARI WORLD ABU DHABI

His Excellency T.P. Seetharam, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, and Kulwant Singh, Managing Director of Lama Tours and Chairman of the Indian Business & Professional Council, were welcomed by Jesse Vargas, General Manager at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, to officially inaugurate the Park’s popular Festival of Lights.

To mark the opening of the Festival of Lights at Ferrari World, Indian ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency T.P. Seetharam, joined Kulwant Singh, Managing Director of Lama Tours and Chairman of the Indian Business & Professional Council and Jesse Vargas, General Manager at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi to press a large ignition button, which lit up the park with awe-inspiring displays.

To mark the official opening of this unique ten-day celebration, the Indian ambassador started the festivities by pressing a large ignition button which lit up the park, and enjoyed performances by some of the acts that will be on during the event.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi is the first Ferrari-branded theme park in the world opened and its doors in 2010. It is currently the largest indoor theme park in the world.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi celebrates the spirit of the legendary marque and is home to numerous thrill rides, family-friendly attractions, state-of-the-art simulators, entertaining live shows as well as popular seasonal festivities that bring together extraordinary performances from around the globe. With its ongoing expansion, the iconic red roof will be adding several record breaking rides in addition to the world’s fastest roller coaster, Formula Rossa.
