French toast makes brunch worth eating as far as we’re concerned. When it’s perfectly made it consists of thick, fluffy slices of bread with a thin, crispy crust that crumbles into a silky, sweet interior and is finished with plenty of oozing butter and creative toppings. Not every kitchen hits the mark but there are a few golden spots in Dallas and Fort Worth that do it well. It’s heaven on a plate, whether it’s breakfast, brunch, or something else.

1 Al Biernat's

We love French toast but when a little alcohol is added we tend to swoon just a little. Buttery brioche is sliced thick, dipped in batter, fried to perfection and then topped with caramelized bananas, blackberries, and Chambord cream. We'd eat it every, single day.

2 Kozy Kitchen

Fresh? Organic? Gluten Free? Amazing? We're in! The French toast at Kozy Kitchen is gluten free, a nice perk for those who can't or prefer not to eat gluten-filled foods. However, that along would not have gotten it on our list if it wasn't amazing. And it is totally amazing. Thick slices of french toast are filled with a cloud of tangy cream cheese, ripe berries, and sliced bananas then drizzled with both a fruit syrup and a maple syrup. The bread is a little dry but all in all worthy of Haute Living Best 5.

3 Origin Kitchen and Bar

Remember what we said about booze and French toast? Check out the Bourbonator, a to-die-for combination of vanilla French toast, honey bourbon caramel, organic white peaches, Chantilly cream, and spiced pecans. You'll sleep the rest of the day but it is totally worth it.

4 Boulvardier

When we think Boulvardier we think amazing cocktails... but no. In this case it's the French toast we are eyeing with serious lust. Airy slices of French toast, bananas, strawberries, pecans, butterscotch, maple syrup, and Chantilly make this some of the best we've eaten anywhere. We think that we caught the aroma of a drop of Gran Marnier as well.

5 Stock and Barrel

Apparently there is a way to make croissants even better. Make them into French toast with caramel, bananas, and Chantilly cream. Luckily that's exactly how they do it at Stock and Barrel. Bits of toffee are encased in buttery croissant bread pudding and then covered with the remaining ingredients. This is southern-style sweet so you'll want coffee.
