When you prefer things shaken, not stirred, there are several options for carefully crafted mixed drinks in Aspen.

1 Justice Snow's

Joshua-Peter Smith takes his craft seriously and wants guests to leave with that understanding. The dozens of cocktails are each hand-crafted, but if you don't find anything to whet the palate, simply request the sort of taste you desire and Smith will concoct something to reflect it. Fresh ingredients translate to smooth and satisfying drinks that often mean one isn't enough.

2 Ricard

Snowmass Village's new restaurant by Food & Wine's "Best New Chef" Tim Goodell might be getting a lot of attention for its mouth-watering French cuisine, but its liquor bar is worth a stop in itself. Carefully crafted cocktails reflect the classic style of the menu, incorporating everything from St. Germain to dry vermouth into its healthy selection of drinks.

3 39 Degrees

The trendy lounge inside the Sky Hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain has several staples on its drink menu, and then updates these with the season. The Italian Job--averna, wild turkey bourbon, lemon juice, ginger beer, orgeat and mint--is one that doesn't come off the menu, and tastes good every time.

4 The Living Room

When the historic Hotel Jerome remodeled its 120-plus year old digs last year, one of the most heralded aspects was The Living Room. The lobby was transformed into a comfortable contemporary-meets-country hangout, and the menu matches it. Classic ingredients pair with fresh twists, like the Smoked Raspberry Thyme Collins, made with vodka, mezcal, St. Germain, raspberries and lime.

5 Jimmy's An American Bar and Restaurant

Proprietor Jimmy Yeager prides himself on more than a hundred kinds of tequilas and mezcals, each hand-picked on scouting trips to Mexico. Cocktails like the Vide Buena, made with de Maguey mezcal, carpano anitca, aperol and orange bitters show this off, but the selection of drinks made from Colorado-produced spirits prove you don't have to go far from home.
