Brooke Siler
If you are looking to try out Pilates, Brooke Siler is your girl for the job. Having a father that was a track and field athlete, as well as an Olympic hopeful, being physically active was inevitable. Even though she didn’t aspire to be a fitness expert, her enthusiasm and passion for fitness got her noticed. Many would ask her to help them work out and from there, everything fell into place. After 15 years of gaining skills in health clubs, she entered the world of Pilates. She spent over 600 hours under the master tutelage of Romania Kryzanowska, a protégé of Joseph Pilates for over 30 years. Through her hard work and innovative pilates body conditioning techniques, she earned a prestigious citation as one of the top personal trainers in the country by Vogue magazine. She is also the author of New York Times best-seller, The Pilates Body. Her client list includes Zooey DesChanel, Madonna, Kirsten Dunst, Liv Tyler, and Rachel Weisz. As a proud owner of re:AB, a Pilates studio in New York City, she knows that the key to a successful fitness regiment is motivation and creativity. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and two children. When she isn’t training or expanding her line of Pilates products, she enjoys traveling the world with her family.
Where were you born ?
New York Hospital in New York City, NY...I'm the real deal!
How long in New york:
Lived a few years abroad but the better part of 42 years.
Midtown East, then Village for 13 years, then Midtown East. The circle of life...or regression.
Fitness Author & Business Owner, Pilates Teacher, Mother, Wife, Sister...
Favorite Restaurant:
I have a different favorite for every mood but I am a huge Alain Ducasse fan.
Best Sushi:
I am not a big sushi fan but I do crave the Tuna Sashimi at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar and Grill.
Best Ethnic Food:
Shabu-Tatsu serves a mean Bi Bim Bop! And, I just love saying that name. Also Milos where everything is fresh, fresh, and fresh.
Best Italian:
Babbo Ristorante
Best place for late night dining:
The Crosby Bar & Terrace. The décor is enchanting.
Best dessert:
Alain Ducasse's homemade caramels that melt in your mouth.
Best place for a romantic date:
Les Deux Amis. It may not be the best, but its definitely the closest to the bedroom!
Best Sunday brunch:
My house or my best friend Michelle's house. It is complete with Mimosas!
Hautest Club/Lounge:
Ask me again when my kids are out of the house.
Best place for a power business meeting:
I hold most meetings in my home because I don't like the interruption of waiters, you know, trying to do their jobs.
All-around favorite spot in New york:
SoHo and the Village still feed my romantic artist's soul.
If you have out of town guests, which hotel would you recommend?
For family and friends, I recommend Hotel Siler, which includes either a guest apartment in our building or the guest room at my home! (Most choose the apartment. Hmmm.)
Favorite shopping venue/boutique:
When I have time to browse, I love the boutiques in and around NoHo and SoHo. When it's time to get down to business, I like the convenience of Saks and Bergdorf.
Best place to buy Jewelry/Watches:
Discovering unique pieces in out of the way boutiques.
Best Spa:
I go to spas when traveling/vacationing but I'll try on my next staycation and let you know.
Favorite Charity Event:
Pilates for Pink, Shape Magazine's even to support Breast Cancer research. We open our studio every year with free classes to benefit the cause.
Favorite Cultural Event:
Opening of the Met, even though I had to be dragged there as a child. It now reminds me of my mother and her love of NYC's rich cultural life.
Favorite Cultural Institution:
MoMA and The Frick.
Best Aspect of New york:
Energy, artistry, originality, and of course...convenience!
Best Steakhouse:
I don't eat much in steakhouses these days but when I did, it was in between Peter Luger's and the one great steak I had at Sparks.
Best Pizza:
My homemade pizza with Rao's sauce and Goat's Milk Gouda. My kids love it!
Best Lunch:
Dragon Bowl with tahini dressing at Angelica Kitchen or the salad bar at Whole Foods. Also, the great salads at NoHo Star.
Best Gym/Athletic Facility:
re:AB Pilates, of course! Our Pilates is bar-none but for a gym facility, it would have to be Equinox.
Best Massage:
Best Limousine/Driving Service:
I despise limos and giant cars that eat and belch gas.
Best Museum/Exhibit:
I'm a classist at heart and I am drawn to High Renaissance artists and exhibits but with so many artist friends and family, I love a great modern art exhibit too.
Favorite historic/legendary place to see or explore:
I still love getting "lost" in Central Park. The Alice in Wonderland statue and boat pond are my favorite.
Best Broadway show:
Last one I saw was Freckleface Strawberry...does that count? ( It was wonderful.)
