On of the hautest workouts and self defense desiplines on the radar lately is jiu-jitsu and The Gracie Academy has opened its second location, now in Beverly Hills, specializing in small group classes and private training for men, women, and children of all ages and athletic abilities.
From the friendly staff and bamboo floors to the spacious locker rooms and stylish granite showers, the beautiful new facility designed by Perch Sit Pretty looks and feels more like a boutique spa than a self-defense school. To top it off, they even have a multimedia touch-screen kiosk in the lobby. Powered by Runtriz, the kiosk gives any visitors an interactive introduction to the Gracie Academy and all of its specialized programs.
To celebrate the grand opening, Gracie Academy Beverly Hills is offering free 90-minute seminars for the week of June 4-10. All seminars are open to first-time Gracie Academy students only, and require no previous experience to participate. Seminars include: Gracie Combatives, a fun, safe introduction to self-defense techniques; Women Empowered, a women’s-only self-defense class; Master Cycle, an advanced class for blue belts or higher; and the newest seminar, Gracie Bullyproof, which teaches children self-defense techniques and verbal assertiveness strategies that will help them defend against bullies. The Bullyproof seminars are offered for Little Champs (5 to 7 years old) and Jr. Grapplers (8 to 12 years old).
Headquartered in Southern California, the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a global organization of certified training centers aimed at teaching street self-defense in accordance with the exacting standards of Grand Master Helio Gracie. Helio learned the art of jiu-jitsu in Brazil in the 1920s, and by the late 1960s, his techniques quickly became the new expression of jiu-jitsu in Brazil and set the stage for a worldwide revolution in martial arts. In 1989, his eldest son Rorion Gracie established North America’s first Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, California, where it has become the epicenter of a global Gracie Jiu-Jitsu revolution.
