New York Fashion Week: W Hotels Presents Fall 2011 Global Glam Collection

W-Hotels'-Global-Glam-Presentation

Yesterday evening, as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, W Hotels presented the fourth season of its exclusive Global Glam Collection at the Box at Lincoln Center. This was the second time that W Hotels as participated in the New York Fashion week lineup and was one of this year’s most anticipated shows. W Hotels’ Global Fashion Director, Amanda Ross is the brains behind this fascinating marriage of hospitality, architecture, and fashion. She commissioned 15 designers to create original pieces each reflecting the aesthetics of three new or newly renovated W hotel properties.

The first, the W Taipei Collection, “Nature Electrified,” was inspired by the new W hotel in Taipei, Taiwan, which is opening next week. The hotel’s design incorporates the rural setting of the city, which surrounds its urban city center. Likewise, the collection combined both natural elements with neon-colored accents. Designers featured in the W Taipei collection included Twinkle by Wenlan, Noir, and Deepa Gurnani.

The second collection, inspired by the recently opened W Austin entiteld “Remix and Amplify” gave a nod to Austin’s unofficial slogan of “Keep Austin Weird.” This was reflected in the room, as moving sound bars in bright lighting flickered on the runway. The collection reflected this free-spirit with vintage and bohemian inspired prints and textures that included standout pieces by Eugenia, Myne, Shaesby, and Catherine Nicole.

The third and final collection, the W Mexico City collection dubbed “Masquerade,” was inspired by costumes worn during Dia De Los Muertos, and the lively culture Mexico City. This combination of bright colors and mysterious getups permeate the décor of the W Mexico City, and were thus reflected in the collection with designs by Paola Hernandez, Mara Hoffman, Sibilia and I-Luck.

Other designers featured in the show were Eugenia Kim, Clare Vivier, Deepa Gurnani, Noir, Paola Hernandez, Posse, Catherine Nicole, Yarnz, and Contego Eyewear.

Guests included Paz de la Huerta, Liya Kabeda, Hugh Becker from Gossip Girl, Cobra Starship, Peter Brant II, and YELLE DJs who gave a special live performance on stage. “Global Glam uses fashion to communicate the design of our new or iconic hotels, while also showcasing rising design stars to a fashionable jet-set audience in W Hotels worldwide,” explained Eva Ziegler, W Hotels Worldwides’ Global Brand Leader.

Traveling the world through fashion? We’ll happily take this trip again.
