Let’s face it: people who drink scotch are “scotch people.” Cosmo lovers aren’t necessarily “vodka people,” just as Bud Light drinkers aren’t “beer people” (no offense, but, blech.) No, your taste buds have to be particularly deft and discerning to appreciate the nuances of a good scotch, and if that’s you, you know the difference between a real scotch list and a few basics on the premium liquor menu. To that end, here’s a list of some of the best places to get a good Speyside, Dallas side.
1 Pappas Brothers Steakhouse
If you're looking for a wide array of single malts, Pappas Bros' has it. The restaurant, of the same family as Pappadeux seafood, brings to the table a singularly sophisticated mix of various Highland and Lowland scotches, so whether you have a hankering for a Bowmore 40 year or a Macallan '46, you are set to go. Bonus: the steakhouse offers up a healthy menu of over 60 sizes and brands of cigars to accompany that fine whiskey.

2 Al Biernat's
A true Dallas staple, it would be a crime for Al Biernat's not to have a respectable scotch menu for the whiskey aficionados. As a matter of fact, one of the Laphroaig ambassadors visited Al's in the spring to outline their brand of intense, Islay scotch. Feeling a bit wild at your business lunch? Try the Laphroaig Cask Strength, a 111 proof, peaty whiskey that will blow the socks off that salad.

3 Trinity Hall
Of course, if you are looking to enjoy a simple scotch without all the pomp and circumstance of a full service restaurant, Trinity Hall is a great bet. Situated in the Mockingbird Station shopping and entertainment mecca, you're bound to find a reason to stop by this Irish pub for a highball, whether you're about to see a flick at the Angelika or you just blew your savings at West Elm. Some greats on their list: 12 year Connemara, Aberlour, Springbank Special Cask.
5321 E Mockingbird Ln
What clubs do you feel prized to be a part of? If you know the difference between a 12 year and an 18 year, and can point out a Campbeltown scotch in mere seconds, then Sevy's Scotch Club is probably on your list. Their monthly scotch tasting is second to none, including a delectable four-course meal paired with a variety of complimentary whiskeys.
8201 Preston Rd
5 Screen Door
This upscale Southern kitchen in the Arts District has an event perfect for this list: the Scotch and Cigar night. Join together for tastings of the real good stuff--most recently, a slew of Glenlivets as well as Nadurra Cask and some other very special bottles--along with some cigar puffing and hors d'ouerves munching. Perfect for an end of summer evening.
