HowlOWeenie 2010

My favorite time of year with my dog is during the holiday season, the endless festive parties, food and of course costumes. Halloween involves all of these things and the creativity that pet owners put into their animal’s costume is a welcomed delight. I speak from experience, as my dog Jules had the great distinction of placing 3rd in an annual Halloween costume contest that she enters every year. Atlanta has a special fondness for dogs and the first holiday of the autumn season, evident by the vast number of fun events on tap all month long. On Saturday October 2, Brook Run Park in Dunwoody hosts HowlOWeenie 2010. Grab your fur babies and a showstopping costumes and see who will take top prize!

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., you and your furry loved one will have tons of activities to choose from. There are pet-only attractions and those that include the whole family for non-stop fun. All contests are $5 per entry and there are quite a few to choose from. The Howling Contest kicks things off beginning at 10:15, with the main attraction, the Costume Contest taking place at 10:45. This year there are two separate prize categories for the costume contest, the people’s choice winners and those that are selected by the official judges. After winners are announced, be sure to stop over and take a few memorable photos with a “puparazzi” portrait session. Later in the afternoon a Face Kissing Contest determines which dog can show their owner the most love in 30 seconds. Get ready for plenty of tongues wagging during this cute event. Races for speediest dog in older and younger age groups add to the exciting outdoor enjoyment.

Adults and children will enjoy the raffle, with great prizes and gifts, a vendor/artist market and a delicious lunch with pricing at $5 per plate. The pets are the star attraction because HowlOWeenie is also offering micro-chipping, nail trimming and t-shirts sales. This weekend all the fun is going to the dogs!
