Haute Fashion: Intermix to Carve Out a Space in the Meatpacking District
They're well-dressed, handsome, heterosexual and have quite a piece of the nation's luxury retail sector. In New York in particular, Haro and Khajak Keledjian have a strong-hold on the fashion forefront with their chain of Intermix boutiques; with 5 stores in the 23-square-mile Manhattan spread, an Intermix shopping bag can more often than not be spotted slung across the shoulders of this city's most discerning fashionistas. How does one forgo a little retail therapy upon eyeing that grey banner so luringly blowing in the breeze? The call of the retail gods does not go straight to voice mail.

Hautels: The Andaz is San Diego’s Hottest New Luxury Hotel
It's hard to be the trendiest spot in The Gaslamp Quarter, because everything is trendy, everything is hip, everything is unique and fun, but the new Andaz San Diego, located right in the heart of the quarter, is doing an admirable job of taking that title. While the area hosts such hipster hotel names as The Hard Rock and The W, the Andaz is bringing in a subtle coolness that isn't going unnoticed, and serving up an extra side of generosity, something most hotels overlook.
The Andaz, formerly The Ivy Hotel, is 159 rooms of urban style and fuss-free decor that includes flat-screens and glass-encased bathrooms. The sleek, city feel of the hotel starts at the front desk, where you aren't greeted by a large staff typing away behind a long desk, instead you are welcomed by a good-looking, suited employee on a thin laptop amidst modern couches and low-lighting. While you wait, there are complimentary snacks to greet you at the desk, and then you're up to your room, catching a glimpse of the gorgeous Quarter Kitchen on your way to the elevator.

Haute Fashion: Solange Azagury-Partridge Opens Flagship Boutique on Rodeo Drive
In 1987, Solange Azagury-Partridge needed an engagement ring, so she created one that consisted of an uncut diamond embedded in a simple gold band. So many people loved her designs that a few years later she launched her first 30-piece bridal jewelry line. As her earlier pieces attest, Azagury-Partridge broke the rules by creating dramatic sculptural settings from unconventional combinations of stones including precious and semi-precious gems, both cut and uncut. Her much anticipated collection is finally out and the recently opened flagship store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills looks like the marriage of a rainbow and a lollipop, red velvet walls… with nothing but “ice” waiting for the right Goth princess to come in. And so we did. Feels so decadent, it is going to be the right match for us…

Haute Exhibit: MoMA’s Abstract Expressionist “Big Picture” Retrospective
Monday was unseasonably warm here in New York—with the promise of more warm weather later this week—and whenever I feel the tempting approach of spring from what has proved to be an arduous winter, I think of Mark Rothko. Yes, you’re correct in thinking that a strange association, but on those first days when the warmth of the sun is welcomed on your skin with something like a dire thirst, I can’t help but recall the image of Mark Rothko’s No. 5 with its effusively sumptuous blocks of bright yellow, orange, and red, which suggest sun, horizon, and land all in a hazy instant.

In the Mix
A friend, a date or a business associate stops by your place prior to an evening out. The natural thing to do is offer them a cocktail before hitting the town. You’ve got the bar set up, the crystal decanter shining, your supplies in order. Just one problem – you have no idea how to mix a fine cocktail. Anything more complicated than scotch on the rocks simply stumps you. Wouldn’t it be nice to wow your guest with your mixology skills as seemingly effortlessly as you already have with your interior decorating skills (or your skills to pick an interior decorator – they don’t have to know)? Well, here’s your chance to learn from the best.
