Haute Preview: New York Philharmonic To Broadcast Marvin Hamlisch Tribute on New Year’s Eve

News | November 5, 2012

Before his death on August 6 composer Marvin Hamlisch was scheduled to conduct the New York Philharmonic during its annual New Year’s Eve performance at Lincoln Center. Now, the Philharmonic will celebrate Hamlisch with a marquee lineup of musical talent performing his work. Hamlisch, a New York native, was best known for his work on Broadway’s A Chorus Line and Sweet Smell of Success and the films The Way We Were and Sophie’s Choice.

Josh Groban, Michael Feinstein, Megan Hilty, Audra McDonald and Raúl Esparza are among the musician’s slated for the event, which will air on PBS as Live From Lincoln Center. In addition to his treasured scores, Hamlisch lays claim to some impressive bits of trivia: he’s one of only 11 EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winners and one of only two people to have nabbed the EGOT and a Pulitzer Prize, the other being fellow composer Richard Rogers.
