Trump It Up
Mad about bubbly? It’s undeniably the most delicious pre dinner palette cleanser, celebratory drink of choice, and perfect nightcap to a successful evening out. Champagne has been a long time love of the upper class, yet it’s no longer just for CEOs, rappers and long-legged models.
Consider yourself an aficionado? Well, if fizz is your thing, pop by the Trump Hotel Waikiki on Thursday evenings where ‘the Donald’ shares the wealth by offering an assorted array of bubbles over breathtaking views at sunset.
From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Wai’olu lounge sip three flights of champagne paired with a trio of amuse bouche for just $35 per person. After a long hard week at the office this is a real treat for the weekend ahead.
The host and champagne house changes per week. Last Thursday, Veuve Clicquot was on the menu. We began the unobtrusive yet oh so service friendly tasting with the infamous brut Yellow Label noshing on a jumbo lump crab cake atop tomato relish. For course two, Brut Rose was on the agenda paired with the ‘loco moco’. The loco moco dish is native to Hawaii. There are many variations, but the most popular is white rice topped with a hamburger patty, fried egg and gravy. Honestly, it’s not my thing, but a la Trump style, it so was! We’re talking rice croquettes mixed with wok-fried beef topped with a sunny side up quail egg. To round out our hour-long two-person fete, we delighted in the Demi-Sec varietal over edamame hummus and crispy rice cake. The hummus was smooth in texture and slightly sweet for a dessert like appeal.
Thursday’s at the Trump Hotel Waikiki unveil a cool scene, surreal setting, scrumptious bites, & some serious sparkly.
