Haute 100 LA Update: Meryl Streep to Star in Adaptation of Lois Lowry’s ‘The Giver’

Meryl Streep will tackle another iconic role when she stars in the film adaptation of Lois Lowry’s classic novel The Giver.

The 64-year-old actress will play the Chief Elder in a society where there are no problems, illnesses or conflicts.

She is in charge of assigning the society’s youths their “tasks”.

Streep will play the society’s Chief Elder, an authoritative and antagonistic woman who assigns the young their tasks.

Weinstein Co. will release the dystopian adaptation on on Aug. 15.

Phillip Noyce will direct; Jeff Bridges and Brenton Thwaites co-star.
