Sbe Entertainment’s Katsuya Shuttered in Laguna

After less than two years in operation, Sbe Entertainment’s Japanese restaurant Katusya shuttered last night in Laguna Beach. On the restaurant’s final day, all locals received a 50 percent discount off all menu items.

Since Katsuya’s opening in 2011, Sbe Entertainment’s Sam Nazarian has opened numerous other restaurants. Reports are indicating that the closing of Laguna Beach’s Katsuya may have to do with Sbe’s “plans to focus its energies on a local location of Umami Burger,” a partnership that Sbe remains committed to in Laguna.

A statement from Sbe explained, “While the restaurant enjoyed nearly two years of success in the community, Sbe is pursuing a new Orange County location for the brand. … Despite the closure, Sbe remains committed to the Laguna Beach community through its partnership in the Umami Burger property as well as its desire to find future Laguna Beach locations for its hotel, restaurant and nightlife brands.”

The company gave no further specific reason for the closure.
