The Plaza’s Astor Suite is Most Expensive Rental in New York City

Costing $165,000 per month, the Plaza Hotel’s Astor Suite has been named the most expensive rental in New York City.

The $165,000 a month suite features royal accents and sophisticated aesthetics and has been home to plenty of world leaders and wealthy individuals in the past. The suite draws its inspiration from the Windsor Castle, which is one of the British royal family’s residences and it is known to combine the classical British architectural cue with modern day minimalistic sophistication.

Located at 768 5th Avenue on Central Park South, the suite is set over some of New York’s most posh areas for real estate. The suite has been home to the likes of President John F. Kennedy, the Vanderbilt family and the Astors. It is currently owned by Jurgen Friedrich (boss of Espirit in Europe) and plenty of attention and resources have gone into intricately replicating as much of the Windsor castle as possible. Features include handcrafted artifacts and traditional British upholstery with matching carved furniture and 14-foot high ceilings. In the 5,087-square-foot suite there are four bedrooms, a guest room, six bathrooms, meeting and dining areas, a private library and a living room. There is also an external patio with breathtaking views.

Friedrich purchased the suite for $25 million in 2007.
