(I)Spa at the InterContinental San Francisco Undergoes Makeover

While the hotel that houses (I)Spa, the InterContinental in SoMa, is largely thought of as a business hotel, the spa itself is somewhat of a secret among locals. The last time I visited, only one person out of the seven in the lounge—sipping Champagne while waiting for a treatment—was an out-of-towner. One group of three were local women who visit the spa together once a week; two were on a lunch break from their FiDi jobs; and one was from Berkeley.

While all of the spa services here are among the best in the city, the facials, in particular are top notch. Murad is the main product line, and choices include “C Results,” an antioxidant-rich facial that treats sun damage and uneven pigmentation, and helps prevent free-radical damage. “Radiant Renewal” is the best choice for winter, utilizing avocado oil and shea butter to deeply nourish and moisturize dry skin.

The “Ip5 Illuminating Pro Peel Facial” tackles wrinkles using five separate exfoliators and brighteners to renew tired skin.

And a particularly wonderful aromatherapy line not widely found in spas is Eve Taylor Recommends, used as a finish in several of the facials and available in the spa’s retail store.

Add on a mani-pedi in the new salon area, and your afternoon is complete.
