Competition Arises in Napa

If you’re planning a stay in exquisite Napa Valley, chances are, you’re probably staying in an exquisite resort to match your surroundings. Calistoga Ranch, Silverado Resort, and many others in Napa’s wine country offer impeccable services and amenities to their guests during their stay. Some of the finest and freshest foods and wines are served here. At the risk of sounding pretentious, you wouldn’t normally think of the Embassy Suites as falling into the same category as the others. Not that the hotel chain isn’t up to par with your basic needs and comforts, but it’s hard to pay them much attention when faced with a dozen other over-the-top luxurious places to stay and enjoy. However, the recent features they’ve added may make you think twice about considering it an option when planning your next trip to the wine region.

The Hilton-managed Embassy Suites, in the town of Napa itself, has added a new food and beverage management team to its staff and is now ready and more than willing to compete with the other five-star kitchens in the area. Christy Gianelli, a Napa native herself, is at the head of the team and has quite an impressive resume of her own. Gianelli has worked with several Napa hospitality bigwigs such as Wine Adventures, the Napa Valley Conference and Visitors Bureau, and even the abovementioned super deluxe Silverado Resort. The core of Gianelli’s team, as well as the kitchen, is Chef Emmanuel Afentoulis, originally from Greece. Aftentoulis and his Mediterranean-inspired menu is taking the 60-seat Grille 29 by the horns and showing it who’s really boss. New lunch and dinner menus have been established and feature palette-pleasing items such as pan-seared rainbow chard salmon and calamari with a dill, lemon, garlic, and tzatziki sauce.

As if the new and improved kitchen wasn’t enough, the hotel is also revamping its banquet space to now offer you an even better 7,000 square foot space with a garden atrium and terrace. The beautifully made over banquet area is perfect for luncheons, private parties, and weddings. So from now on, when planning your future rendezvous to the gourmet-filled Napa Valley, don’t be so quick to cross off Embassy Suites on your list of places to stay. I strongly suggest you give them a shot because chances are, now, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
