A former executive pastry chef from The Slanted Door and Lark Creek Steak, Piumarta, started The Pastry Cupboard as a wholesale operation about three years ago. Now her first retail venture will likely begin the week of August 29th, when the shop is set to open for business.

The Rio Spa & Salon hosted its second annual Locks of Love Cut-A-Thon raising a total of 61 ponytails to benefit the organization. This year’s event was held in honor of Rylie Cruz, the granddaughter of a longtime Rio employee, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year. The donated hair will go to the Locks of Love organization and will be turned into wigs and hairpieces for children undergoing chemotherapy or suffering from other medical illnesses.
